We are seeking an experienced Business Immigration Paralegal/Specialist in our Detroit office to perform substantive work, including, but not limited to drafting complex business immigration petitions and conducting legal research and analysis.
Responsibilities: • Provides substantive assistance to attorneys, clients, and staff in the Business Immigration Practice Group of the Corporate Department. • Prepares error-free, high quality employment-based non-immigrant and immigrant petitions. • Prepares supporting documentation for applications and petitions. • Utilizes industry related software to complete forms and other documents, such as INSZoom. • Researches, summarizes and/or reviews state and federal rulings, cases, regulations, and statutes regarding immigration-related issues. • Interacts with various outside entities, including but not limited to clients, governmental agencies and officials, courts, corporations, and other law firms to gather information. • Works independently to determine whether additional tasks not previously assigned by attorneys need to be completed to service clients more efficiently; will convey this information, and follow through appropriately.
Qualifications: • A minimum of 3 years of business immigration experience including significant experience in preparing error-free, high quality H-1B, L-1, I-140, I-485 and PERM Labor Certification filings. Experience with INSZoom highly preferred. • Proficient with iCert and the use of MS Word, use of the Internet, use of e-mail, and able to quickly learn and utilize other computer applications used by the firm. • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills. Detail oriented a must. • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under significant time constraints. • Must be a problem solver, willing to work and think with a degree of independence, handle confidential information with discretion, and accept responsibility for producing work that is consistently complete, timely, effective and accurate. • Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree with a major or minor in paralegal/legal assistant studies; or • Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree in any field plus a Paralegal/Legal Assistant Certificate from an ABA approved organization.
