The Director of Diversity & Inclusion will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to assist the firm in attracting, retaining and promoting diverse talent and creating an inclusive environment for all. The Director will act as a thought-leader, influencer and subject matter expert, working collaboratively across all areas of the firm to educate and engage firm leaders and employees on issues relating to diversity & inclusion.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
In conjunction with senior management and members of the Diversity & Inclusion and Women’s Initiatives Committees, establish the firm’s diversity strategy and develop and implement strategic initiatives, policies, programs and best practices to achieve goals and measure effectiveness of such strategies.
Provide innovative thought and programmatic support for the Diversity & Inclusion and Women’s Initiatives Committees and associate affinity groups
Be a resource for and build trusted relationships with diverse individuals across the firm
Maintain and enhance relationships with peers and monitor D&I scholarship to stay abreast of best practices and innovative programming
Communicate the firm’s D&I vision and increase visibility of the firm’s D&I initiatives by engaging with the firm’s current, former and future lawyers and the community at large through targeted outreach to law schools, key clients, leading diversity organizations, etc. using internal and external newsletters, programs and events, and social media platforms
Partner with Legal Recruiting, Professional Development and Business Development departments to advise on effective strategies to attract and retain diverse lawyers
Compile, analyze and report on firm D&I data for external surveys, client RFPs and other questionnaires and benchmark firm data against external diversity metrics
A strategic and creative thinker with the ability to lead as well as to serve as a team member on cross-department initiatives.
Strong presentation and technical skills including the ability to effectively present and report on data
Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change.
Strong management, organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interface with and build strong working relationships with firm leadership, attorneys and administrative staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Deep knowledge of industry standards, best practices and trends
Multicultural sensitivity in all areas of D&I across various geographies
Availability for programs and events outside of normal office hoursl
Bachelor’s degree required, J.D. or other advanced degree useful.
At least 8-10 years of experience in a management role focused on diversity and inclusion in a large organization, preferable a law firm.
