The Director, Policy & Partnerships, works on two USTelecom teams including one that leads the association’s advocacy efforts and the other focused on USTelecom’s strategic initiatives & partnerships. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized and flexible with an ability to simultaneously work on a variety of complex policy matters. S/he also will regularly engage with our members, partners, and other stakeholders to advance our members’ business goals, and bolster USTelecom’s mission, agenda, visibility, leadership, and growth.
Lead and assist in the implementation of a focused strategic advocacy plan for priority issues critical to our members’ business interests.
Prior experience working on infrastructure policy issues, such as access to rights of way, pole attachments and/or wireless siting, is a plus
Regularly convene and work with policy leaders within the USTelecom membership to develop advocacy positions and seek consensus among the membership.
Draft regulatory pleadings before federal agencies and advocate for the positions taken.
Develop engagement opportunities with an expanding range of external organizations including think tanks, academics, thought leaders, public interest organizations, related technology organizations and enterprises, and others on core issues of importance to membership.
Represent the association in meetings with policymakers and external organizations.
Monitor relevant legislative and regulatory activity in the states and coordinate advocacy efforts.
Operate in a team culture that prioritizes collaboration, inclusion, respect, and communication, and requires consistent, and pro-active commitment to member services, support, and engagement.
Three years’ experience in the legal profession and/or policy positions.
Experience working on issues relevant to the broadband/internet/technology community.
Knowledge and experience related to wireline and wireless infrastructure policy and legal issues desired, but not required.
Prior government experience related to communications/technology policy desired, but not required.
Knowledge of federal and state communications regulatory processes and agency workings.
Broad professional network of industry, policy, governmental, regulatory, technology and advocacy professionals.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
