Legal Specialist

The Legal Specialist is responsible for initiating and producing complex work at a high level of competence in one or more areas of law in support of attorneys and/or clients. Work product is self-directed and requires significant independent judgment and discretion. Advanced knowledge and understanding of practice areas, processes, procedures, rules and regulations is required. The specific duties of the Legal Specialist may vary based on department needs and may include but are not limited to business/corporate/transactional work; health law; employment; resolution of adverse patient care event claims; litigation; and website design, maintenance and management.

Experience in risk management and dispute resolution is preferred. Qualified candidates will meet one of the following education requirements: a four-year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program; a bachelor’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal educational program; or a J.D. degree. Five years of relevant legal experience required. A J.D. degree may be substituted for required experience. A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years of senior-level paralegal experience, may be substituted for all previously-noted requirements. *This is a remote telework position until Covid-19 pandemic telework protocols are resolved. Post pandemic, this position may require onsite support based on business needs. Individual must be within driving distance to one of the Mayo Clinic campuses. **Cover letter and Resume are required for application consideration.
Completion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam), other professional designations (advanced certification in specific practice area), or a Master's degree preferred. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Project Management Course or equivalent preferred.
